This combined special issue is dedicated to the 16th Global Chinese Chemical Scholars Symposium (GCCES) which will be held in China Railway Qingdao Cosmopolitan Exposition City on August 11-14, 2024 (the main venue). GCCES is an international academic conference that gathers global experts and scholars in the field of chemical industry. Representatives are invited from the chemical industry and related fields from all over the world, including science and technology, education, industry and industry association experts, to attend this conference and introduce the current hot issues and development trends of the world chemical industry. A series of issues such as international talent training strategy, industry-university-research integration development model, multi-disciplinary cross and integration, scientific and technological collaborative innovation and sustainable development of energy and environment, carbon neutrality will be discussed, which play an important role in promoting the development of chemical engineering.
